New Zealand Parliament Condemns China Over Human Rights Abuses in Xinjiang
Fails to declare CCP s treatment of Uyghurs as a genocide
The New Zealand parliament on Wednesday unanimously passed a motion that declared China was committing severe human rights abuses on the Uyghurs in Xinjiang.
Politicians in parliament declared they were “gravely concerned about the severe human rights abuses taking place against Uyghurs and other ethnic and religious minorities in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.” They called on the Ardern government to “work with all relevant instruments of international law to bring these abuses to an end.”
“The New Zealand Government, in concert with others, will continue to call upon China in the strongest terms … We call on China to uphold its human rights obligations,” Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta said in a speech to parliament. ....

AUCKLAND, New Zealand, April 10 (Xinhua) Chinese cultural performances adorned the Race Relations Day Multicultural Festival in Auckland on Saturday night.
The 5th-edition festival was hosted by the Federation of the Chinese Association of New Zealand, which is constantly promoting a multicultural New Zealand.
Steven Wong, director of the Federation of the Chinese Association of New Zealand, said in the opening speech that New Zealand is a multicultural society with New Zealand Chinese being part of it.

WELLINGTON (Reuters) - New Zealand is close to allowing Australians to visit without quarantining on arrival, New Zealand s deputy prime minister said on Thursday, a reciprocal right that would create a long-touted Trans-tasman travel bubble .
Both countries have been successful in largely containing the spread of the coronavirus domestically.
Australia s border has been mostly open to neighbouring New Zealanders since last October, with a few short suspensions when there were small coronavirus outbreaks in Auckland. But New Zealand has delayed returning the favour amid more frequent bursts of fresh COVID-19 clusters across Australia. ....
