Jobs, clean energy on Energy Futures Summit agenda


Queensland electricity heavyweights were among discussions about the acceleration of the state’s clean energy future on the first day of the Energy Futures Summit at Central Queensland University in Gladstone.
Energy companies Stanwell, CleanCo and Powerlink took part in three frank panel discussions, alongside unions, educators, environment groups and Traditional Owners about the transition away from coal fired power.
Renewable job creation and the retraining of a fossil-fuel skilled workforce were also on the agenda at the Energy Futures Summit.

Vail Valley nonprofit groups forge a new partnership to aid kids

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, kids have taken the brunt of the social and emotional damage. A new partnership aims to repair or stave off some of that damage.
The SOS Outreach program for about 25 years has worked to get kids who need help into snowboarding, along with mentoring and other assistance. That group in the past ski season has forged a partnership with My Future Pathways, a more recent Vail Valley organization with many of the same goals.
My Future Pathways director Bratzo Horruitiner said the partnership was forged quickly.
“We work with the same kids, the same demographics with the same need,” Horruitiner. After a first meeting with SOS Outreach Director Seth Ehrlich, “a month later, we were on the mountain,” Horruitiner said. ....

New Vail Health program aims to create a stronger workforce, literally

With 18 percent of Eagle County residents uninsured, more than triple the state average of 6.5 percent, filling the gap in health care services for the uninsured is essential.
Those are the words of Vail Health professionals who are rolling out a new program called Community SafeHealth, which will “guide and encourage uninsured and underinsured Eagle County residents to develop healthier habits,” said Sally Welsh with Vail Health. ....
