Ceremony honors those who tragically lost their lives due to devastating, nondiscriminatory and destructive wrath of fire

WORCESTER  Despite frigid temperatures, a small group gathered Sunday around a large, black granite monument on the corner of Main and Agawam streets to honor and remember those who tragically lost their lives to the devastating, nondiscriminatory and destructive wrath of fire.
William T. Breault, chairman of the Main South Alliance of Public Safety, led the solemn ceremony that has been held every March 7 since the monument was dedicated in 1992 to recognize the fatal fire two years earlier at 21 Florence St., in which four people perished.
Each year on March 7, names of those who died the previous year are added to the cold slab of stone, forever etched as a constant reminder of the devastating, non-discriminatory wrath of fire. ....

After triple-fatal fire, Worcester newlyweds seek help starting over

WORCESTER  The smoke was coming through a closet door at the back of his second floor apartment on Jaques Avenue when Luchaine Whyte first noticed it at around 7:15 p.m.
He told his husband and they called their landlady, whom they affectionately refer to as Miss Lorraine. She wondered if it was a smell from someone smoking.
But within minutes, the smoke was getting thicker. Whyte opened the door to check and knew they had to leave.
He was barefoot and in long Johns as he made his way down the stairs without the leg brace he uses to walk.  His husband, Rudy Griffin-Whyte, ran upstairs to warn Lorraine Adams and her husband. ....
