Edo APC, PDP Differ over Reinstatement of Council Chairman

Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the state All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday engaged in war of words over compliance by the state government with a court ruling reinstating the suspended Chairman of the Etsako East Local Government Area, Hon Aremiyau Momoh, by the state High Court.
Justice Daniel Okungbowa of the state High Court had in a judgment delivered last week, declared as illegal, null and void the suspension of the council chairman by the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
In a letter written by the state Caretaker Committee of APC and signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Col. David Imuse and Lawrence Okah respectively, to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, APC accused the state governor of allegedly obstructing the implementation of the court judgment, which they said is declarative. ....

Relief materials worth several millions of naira was, on Thursday, distributed to thousands of 2020 flood victims in Etsako East, Etsako Central and Esan South East Local Government Areas of Edo State by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The materials included rice, garri, beans, spaghetti, salt, groundnut oil, seasoning mosquito nets, blanket, mattress among others.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony yesterday in Benin, the Director-General of NEMA, Air Vice Marshall Muhammadu Muhammed explained that the items are given to the flood victims by the Federal Government due to this year’s flood so as to cushion the effect of the flood on the people. ....

An Edo state High Court sitting in Benin City on Friday declared as illegal, the removal from office of Alhaji Aremiyau Aligamhe Momoh as Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo.
The court presided over by Justice Daniel Okungbowa, delivered the judgement in suit no: B/205/2019.
Momoh was removed from office by Governor Godwin Obaseki over alleged corrupt practices in September 2019.
But in his judgment, Okungbowa declared the action of the Governor as “null and void” and directed Momoh be reinstated to office immediately. ....

AN Edo state High Court sitting in Benin City yesterday declared as illegal, the removal from office of Alhaji Aremiyau Aligamhe Momoh as Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo.
The court presided over by Justice Daniel Okungbowa, delivered the judgement in suit no: B/205/2019.
Momoh was removed from office by Gov. Godwin Obaseki over alleged corrupt practices in September 2019.
But in his judgment yesterday, Okungbowa declared the action of the Governor as “null and void” and directed Momoh be reinstated to office immediately.
The Judge held that the Government failed to comply with the Provisions of Sections 20 and 21 of Edo State Local Government Law, 2000 (as amended) in failing to consult with the Edo State House of Assembly as provided by Law before suspending Momoh. ....
