Redmond joins in fireworks ban, councilors declare state of emergency due to heat Published Redmond joins in fireworks ban, councilors declare state of emergency due to heat REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) Just hours after the Antler fire broke out early Tuesday afternoon in southeast Redmond, city councilors unanimously, albeit reluctantly, approved an ordinance declaring a state of emergency due to extreme weather conditions that includes a ban on public use of fireworks, a move also taken by Bend and other Northwest communities amid record heat and drought. The ordinance provides authority for the city of Redmond to act as an emergency management agency, in addition to banning the public use of fireworks throughout the duration of the order. ....
I think all it does is spew one person s perspective BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) The Redmond City Council met Tuesday night for a meeting that featured a 2020 year in review for several departments, including the police. Councilors were joined by Police Chief Dave Tarbet and Captain Devon Lewis, who highlighted service call statistics and trends. Even though we had less overall number of calls, we saw an increase in domestic violence, mental health calls, medical assists, etc, Tarbet said. The department said they received 2,500 fewer calls for the year. An increase in domestic violence was a trend in the wrong direction, but Captain Lewis says there s a reason behind it. ....

We cannot issue a business license for any business that operates in violation of state or federal law, Bullock said Monday and marijuana, despite many state s actions, is not federally legal. But as many cities across the state garner tax revenue from dispensaries, Bullock said he wants to open a discussion to learn more about what this could mean for the city from both a social and financial perspective. ....
Whether the measures announced Thursday will satisfy human rights groups which have been urging the Liberal government to crack down hard on hateful conduct and prejudice in the ranks remains to be seen. The department s new approach stands in contrast to the way DND handled another major social issue five years ago the large number of sexual misconduct and sexual assault cases within the military. Former supreme court justice Marie Deschamps conducted a high-profile investigation and issued a scathing report that condemned the highly sexualized culture and abuse within the ranks. That led to an equally high-profile campaign, known as Operation Honour, which created a set of expectations and a series of bad headlines as the effort to root out misconduct proved more difficult than expected. ....
