Former Booker boss joins Menzies

Former Booker boss Charles Wilson has made a boardroom comeback at Menzies Distribution, and is taking a 10 per cent stake in the logistics business.
The appointment of Mr Wilson as a non-executive follows that of former Asda chief executive Andy Clark to the role of chairman of Menzies in February. The duo will help further accelerate expansion of the logistics group, which took over major rival Bibby Distribution at the end of last year.
Mr Wilson retired earlier this year as chief executive of Booker after 15 years at the helm, having presided over the £3.7 billion acquisition of Booker by supermarket giant Tesco in 2018. ....

Norway contract win boosts Edinburgh-based John Menzies

Edinburgh-based John Menzies has been engaged to provide ground-handling services for Wizz Air at Oslo Gardermoen Airport.
The value of the five-year deal was not disclosed. However, John Menzies noted the potential for the contract to generate significant amounts of work.
The company said: “When flight volumes at the airport recover it is expected that this contract will represent 5,000 turns per annum, as Wizz Air looks to grow its presence in the Norwegian market.”
The contract win provided a vote of confidence for John Menzies from a valuable client. The company already provides services for Wizz Air at airports in countries ranging from the UK to the Czech Republic. ....

Supermarket heavyweight joins Menzies on its distribution drive

The former head of Asda has joined the board of Menzies Distribution following its acquisition in December of the national logistics and supply chain services arm of Bibby Line Group.
Andy Clark takes up the post of non-executive director as Menzies prepares for its “next phase” of growth. The business is majority-owned by private equity firm Endless, which purchased the distribution operation in a £74.5 million deal to complete its demerger from John Menzies airline support services in 2018.
Endless is said to regard Menzies Distribution, which has historic links with the news trade, as a “buy and build” investment. The current focus is on organic growth and selective acquisitions. ....
