Congressman Hal Rogers voiced his opinions on two recently passed funding bills â one in which he was solidly opposed to and one in which he heartily supported.
House Resolution 4373, also known as the Department of State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2022, passed Wednesday with overwhelming support from Democrats, but with the universal condemnation of House Republicans, including Congressman Rogers, who led the remarks against it.
The bill passed 217-212 along those party lines.
The motion sees a 12% increase in spending over the 2021 version, providing $62.2 billion for foreign and domestic programs. Washington [US]: Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday condoled the death of US Capitol Police Officer William Evans, saying that he made the ultimate sacrifice protecting the Capitol and those who work there on behalf of the American people.
Evans died while another police officer was hospitalised after a car crashed into a security barrier at the US Capitol complex after which the driver lunged towards the officers with a knife, police said. The officers opened fire and the suspect was shot dead.

As a House panel is set to meet on new spending to ramp up Capitol security, military and federal officials will testify in a Senate hearing that is part of several congressional probes into what fueled the deadly Jan. 6 riot.
Today, a House appropriations subcommittee will hear from acting U.S. Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman to consider new spending measures. At the same time, the Senate Homeland and Rules committees will question D.C. National Guard Maj. Gen. William Walker and other federal officials.
