Work Begins on New Post Office at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay > United States Navy > News-Stories

GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba - NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Jacksonville is pleased to announce the start of work on a $3 million contract, awarded by NAVFAC to Centerra Integrated Services, LLC, for the conversion of building 834 at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay (NSGB), Cuba. The renovated facility will soon be a new home to NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville Postal Operations.
The current post office, building 838, has been in use for more than 70 years and has undergone many renovation and repairs. In recent years it has routinely served the more than 6,000 residents of NSGB as well as ships in the U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. Fourth Fleet area of operations, processing an average of 20,000 to 30,000 pounds of mail each week. During the holiday season those figures can easily double. ....

U.S. Navy ships deployed to the U.S. 4th Fleet area of operations have been actively engaged in enhanced counternarcotic operations since April 1, 2020. NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Jacksonville has been providing planning, logistics, fuel, provisions, contracting, maintenance, and mail support services. As the holidays draw near, there may be no service more central to crew morale than mail.
As they do each year, NAVSUP mail routers work tirelessly to direct as much mail as possible to ships at sea and ashore in time for the holidays. The task of delivering mail to a vessel operating forward is no small logistical feat and requires the coordinated efforts of many – from logistics planners, to contracting officers, to mail handlers, to barge operators, to ships’ Postal Officers and designated crew members. ....

Stronger Together: USS William P. Lawrence Gets Second Opportunity to Train with Brazilian Navy > United States Navy > News Stories

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS William P. Lawrence (DDG 110) and BNS Brasil (U 27) executed a passing exercise (PASSEX) in the Pacific Ocean, Dec. 15.
Brasil is a Brazilian training frigate with a crew size of approximately 450 personnel currently on their annual midshipmen training cruise (MTC). Upon completion of the MTC, the midshipmen will receive their commission as officers and will serve aboard ships and other military organizations in Brazil.
The PASSEX provided readiness-strengthening opportunities for U.S. and Brazilian forces and allowed for valuable ship handling training for William P. Lawrence and the soon-to-be commissioned officers aboard Brasil.
“Working with our Brazilian partners is always a valuable experience,” said Cmdr. Dawn Allen, commanding officer of William P. Lawrence. “Planning and executing maritime training strengthens our tactical readiness and practices operational command and control.” ....
