NORTH PROVIDENCE – The inaugural North Providence Village Festival in Centredale has the go-ahead it needs to debut in 2021, planned for July 30-Aug. 1 along Smith Street near Town Hall. The roadway will be closed to traffic for the three-day event. The idea of Town Councilor Steven DiLorenzo, the festival is meant to bring people together and allow them to kick back in a relaxed atmosphere as they support local businesses and vendors. “It will hopefully give local businesspeople a little shot in the arm,” he told The North Providence Breeze. There will be about 30 to 40 vendors, chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. Entertainment will be provided by Steve Anthony (Town Councilor Steve Loporchio), Ron Giorgio, a couple of bands, and youth from the School of Rock in North Providence. There will be food and drink, plenty of entertainment, and fun activities for children including face-painting. ....

The town hasn’t had an HR director to this point, he said, with Chief of Staff Dick Fossa serving in that role of late, but officials felt it was time to move in that direction due to all the issues that need to be dealt with on various levels in a changing world. Lombardi said it still hurts that the town wasn’t able to save $50,000 or more by combining the HR director position with the schools, as he’d advocated for. In September, school officials again declined Lombardi’s call for a joint position after Lombardi noticed a job posting for the school job. That post has since been filled. ....
