Urbana Youth Center adds staff Submitted story Andrew Grimm Photography The Urbana Youth Center (UYC) recently welcomed a new Assistant Director, Judy Richardson, and a new Director of Programs, Natalie Frueh, to the team of staff members. Justin T. Weller, Executive Director, explained the importance of the additions. “Now that the youth center serves more than 400 student members and is working to expand our program offerings, it is essential we build a sustainable approach to serving the needs of our young people. Judy and Natalie are working to make some big and exciting things possible,” Weller said. As the Assistant Director, Judy Richardson oversees the volunteer corps at the youth center and manages the student check-in and check-out process. She works with the other staff members to deliver the programming lineup for UYC and assists the Executive Director with grants, fundraising and the management of the center. ....
Urbana Youth Center travels to Get Air in Columbus Submitted story Submitted photos Submitted photos About 95 student members at the Urbana Youth Center (UYC) recently had the opportunity to take a free trip to a trampoline park, Get Air, in Columbus. The trip was supported in part by donations from Rittal and Bundy Baking Solutions. The trip was provided to some of the youth center’s active student volunteers who help clean and care for the facilities, according to Justin T. Weller, Executive Director for the Urbana Youth Center. “At UYC, we work to encourage positive behavior and engaged, community-minded student members. Part of how we achieve this is by making sure students take ownership in the work we do at the youth center. One of the ways we accomplish this is through our student volunteer program,” Weller said. ....

Urbana seeks Distinguished Alumni Award nominations Submitted story Once again, we are asking for nominations for the Urbana High School Distinguished Alumni Award. Those who wish to nominate someone must be graduates of UHS. Those nominated must have graduated from UHS at least ten years ago, have been recognized in their field of endeavor, and have demonstrated leadership and service to their community. They may be living or deceased. Please visit the Urbana City Schools’ website for further information, including the nomination process and the nomination form. Forms are also available at the Champaign County Library, the Chamber of Commerce office, Urbana City Schools Central Office, and the Senior Citizens’ Center.
