Surat: Bootleggers in the Diamond City have developed a penchant for cocking a snook at the police department. Some publicly celebrated birthdays during Covid-19 times and others proudly took out a procession on their release from jail.
One more such incident of a notorious bootlegger, who is said to be weiling considerable clout in the police department, took out a procession in a swanky car in Antroli village, some 11 km from Surat. The videos of the boisterous show even went viral, forcing cops to swing into action.
Ishwar Vanfodiya, the bootlegger, is seen standing out of the sunroof of a Jaguar leading the procession amid bursting of crackers and deafening music to celebrate his temporary bail.

SURAT: A 23-year-old man accused of raping a minor girl succumbed to severe internal injuries on Sunday at the New Civil Hospital (NCH) in Surat, about 10 days after he was arrested by the Kosamba police.
The deceased Kalpesh Vasava was thrashed allegedly by the father of the 15-year-old girl and her kin in Kathwada village of Kosamba in Surat district on February 26 before handing him over to the police.
The girl’s father was arrested and two other unidentified persons booked for murder following a complaint filed by Vasava’s sister Hiral with the Kosamba police station.

SURAT: Fifteen migrant labourers, including a toddler, who were asleep on the roadside pavement were crushed to death by a speeding truck near Kim, some 40 km from Surat city, around Monday midnight.
The truck driver lost control after hitting a tractor trolley loaded with sugarcane coming from the opposite direction on the four-lane Kim-Mandvi state highway. He ran the vehicle over the labourers sleeping on the pavement constructed over a drainage line and crashed into a roadside cabin.
People living nearby woke up to loud wails of victims and heart-wrenching scenes were witnessed at the accident site with badly mutilated bodies and puddles of blood all over the place. While 12 died on the spot, three others succumbed during treatment at the Surat Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) SMIMER hospital.
An out-of-control dumper truck crushed fifteen people to death as they slept by the roadside early yesterday in western India, authorities said.
