Kathiriya was arrested in February following an alleged argument and clash with members of Bhartiya Tribal Party (BTP) during Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) elections. He was booked at Kamrej police station for rioting and under sections of Prevention of Atrocities Act.
A group of around 50 PAAS members gathered outside the Lajpore Central Jail to receive Kathiriya. Hardik Patel, Dinesh Bambhaniya, Dharmik Malaviya and other PAAS leaders were also present. Earlier, PAAS had requested its supporters not to come in large numbers at LCJ to celebrate the release due to Covid guidelines.
Surat: After the Apex court’s guideline to decongest prisons in view of the Covid-19 situations, 59 inmates of Lajpore Central Jail (LCJ) were released on bail on Tuesday. These include undertrials and convicts.
According to LCJ officials, those released on bail were convicts with sentences below seven years and undertrials whose punishment even if convicted was not more than seven years. Those released were also given ration kits by the local Karuna Trust.

SURAT: A 23-year-old man accused of raping a minor girl succumbed to severe internal injuries on Sunday at the New Civil Hospital (NCH) in Surat, about 10 days after he was arrested by the Kosamba police.
The deceased Kalpesh Vasava was thrashed allegedly by the father of the 15-year-old girl and her kin in Kathwada village of Kosamba in Surat district on February 26 before handing him over to the police.
The girl’s father was arrested and two other unidentified persons booked for murder following a complaint filed by Vasava’s sister Hiral with the Kosamba police station.

SURAT: A 24-year-old man died at a hospital days after he was thrashed by a group of people for his alleged attempt to rape a minor at a village in Gujarat s Surat district, police said on Tuesday. Kalpesh Vasava succumbed to his injuries at Surat Civil Hospital late on Monday night, an official said.
According to the police, a group of people had attacked Vasava after a girl he had allegedly attempted to rape raised an alarm at Kathwada village in Surat s Mangrol taluka on February 26.
Videos of the attack surfaced on social media, in which Vasava can be seen lying on his back with his hands tied to an iron stair, pleading with a man to stop thrashing him, it was stated.
