Apparently, there are several different programs in place aimed at helping the city reach its goal of 40 per cent canopy cover by 2050. With a current canopy of roughy 27 per cent, there s a long way to go, and many trees that must be given homes.
These programs support partnerships and collaborations with homeowners, landowners and not-for-profit organizations that advance the city s strategic priorities to invest in people and neighbourhoods, and to tackle climate change and build resilience, reads the City of Toronto s website, which highlights a number of tree-related grants, incentives and neighbourhood tree giveaways. ....

LAKE PLACID Lake Placid Community Day, an annual event celebrating residents and local organizations, is slated to return this September.
Last year’s Community Day was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Because public health restrictions are always changing, it wasn’t clear if it would return this year but Lake Placid Community Day Planning Committee Chair Val Rogers confirmed on Monday that the event is on the books for Sept. 12. ....

North Elba LEAF awards over $500K in grants to local organizations | News, Sports, Jobs

LAKE PLACID The first-ever round of funding from the town of North Elba’s new Local Enhancement and Advancement Fund (LEAF) is going to 17 organizations hoping to either improve residents’ quality of life, protect the environment, preserve the town’s history or provide relief for small businesses impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
The North Elba Town Council approved a slate of funding recipients during its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 13. Altogether, $560,265 will be disbursed. The authorization comes more than two years after Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism CEO James McKenna first asked the Essex County Board of Supervisors to consider raising the county occupancy tax from 3 to 5% to fund town-level projects. The increase went into effect on June 1, 2020. ....
