Select Board endorses expansion of Heron Cove housing project

MARION The Heron Cove housing project is getting bigger.
The Select Board unanimously endorsed a plan to turn the Heron Cove housing project into a Local Initiative Program development on June 1.
The Local Initiative Program, run by the state, encourages the creation of affordable housing by providing assistance to communities and developers working to create affordable rentals, according to mass.gov.
The updated Heron Cove plan would see an increase of 24 units, from 96 to 120. Additionally, 25% of the units in the development will be rented to people making no more than 80% of the median area income.
The project, developed by Steen Realty, would take up 17 acres on Route 6, near the Wareham Bridge. ....

At the South Algonquin Business Association virtual event held Feb. 4 via Zoom, participants at the event were treated to some valuable information and advice from Kate Monk from Explorers’ Edge, Carolyn Barker-Brown from Community Futures, and Lori Marcil from Nature and Outdoor Tourism Ontario, to navigate the uncertain spring tourism season due to the ongoing pandemic. Each presenter also explained the steps their organization had taken to help tourism businesses through COVID-19.
SABA chair Gabriela Hairabedian and secretary Angela Pollak moderated the meeting, and thanked their guest presenters and everyone who was in attendance.

Developer proposes to build housing complex at Rockland Trust site on Station Street

MIDDLEBORO At the January 25 meeting, the Middleboro Select Board discusses a proposal to convert the former Rockland Trust building at Glass Square into apartments.
The board voted to submit a letter of support for a development proposal which would convert the old Rockland Trust building, located on 8 Station St., into a housing complex.
The proposal would utilize the existing space of the 18,000-plus square foot building into 16 residential apartments.
The application for the proposal is being submitted to the state’s Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) in order to qualify for its Local Initiative Program (LIP). To participate in the program and gain incentives, 25% of the apartments must meet affordable housing standards and availability for low to moderate income families. ....
