TAMPA, Fla. — A local professor is using his life story to encourage kids across Tampa and the world.
“It’s a remarkable moment in time for me,” said Dr. Micah Johnson.
Johnson grew up in Tampa, but he didn’t have a stable childhood. He was homeless.
He said his family moved from shelter to shelter, making it difficult for him to feel secure and build friendships. He never gave up, even with the odds stacked against him. He said the friends he met helped him and encouraged him. That s what his book “Never Had a Friend” is about. ....

“Write On, Oceanside!” is back, but the literary festival is running virtually this year featuring nearly a dozen local authors, who will talk about their books.
The annual festival, which celebrates local authors, will be held via a Zoom webinar at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, hosted by the Oceanside Public Library and Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation.
The top three winners of the “Ode to Oceanside” writing contest will be announced and there will be a reading of the winning ode along with the top three submissions for the Six-Word Story Contest.
Highlights include a discussion of the results of the Never-Ending Story Community Writing Project and a Local Author Showcase. ....
