Babagana Kingibe approved as Special Envoy to Chad and the Lake Chad Basin Region

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Babagana Kingibe as his Special Envoy to Chad and the Lake Chad Basin Region.
The Presidency disclosed this in a statement on Monday evening, adding that the appointment would be in consonance with the resolution of the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Lake Chad Basin Commission Member Countries, on the situation in Chad on the 25th of May, 2021.

(i) Monitor developments in Chad and the Lake Chad Basin Region;
(ii) Aid reconciliation and seamless progress towards a return to democratic rule at the end of the current Transitional Military Council’s rule; ....

Chad: What a crisis means for Nigeria

Lake Chad: FG proposes 3 areas to support development

The Federal Government said the Digital Switch Over is a priority project because it will improve local content, create jobs, curb content monopolies and improve on-demand television to millions of Nigerian households.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed At The Digital Switch Over Stakeholders Meeting in Lagos on Monday.
The Minister disclosed that the DSO has been rolled out in five states so far, adding that the FG is
“kick-starting the new rollout here in Lagos state on April 29th 2021, Kano state on June 3rd 2021 and Rivers state on July 8th 2021. We will then follow up with Yobe state on July 15th 2021 and Gombe state on August 12th 2021.” ....

Vietnamese wins ASEANO sponsorship for plastic pollution research

Nguyen Thi Trang, a Vietnamese predoctoral fellow at the Asian Institute of Technology and three other researchers from Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand have received US$30,000 sponsorship from a research grant competition of the ASEAN-Norwegian Cooperation Project on Local Capacity Building for Reducing Plastic Pollution in ASEAN.
Trang received US$7,500 grant for her doctoral research on the impact of plastic litter on the seagrass communities in Phu Quoc Marine Protected Area in Vietnam. She will conduct her research over a three-month period.
At the awarding ceremony on March 9, Norwegian Ambassador to ASEAN Morten Hoglund underlined Norway’s strong commitment to cleaning oceans and rivers, adding that it has been one of the country’s strongest priorities globally over the past few years. ....
