The Council of Agriculture (COA) on Friday shared the results of a pilot program in central Taiwan s Nantou County, in which local residents can receive government grants to form patrols to help protect Taiwan s endangered leopard cat population.
The program, launched by the COA s Endemic Species Research Institute in 2019, is currently limited to parts of Nantou and Miaoli counties with established populations of leopard cats, which are estimated to number between 300 and 500 nationwide. ....

Nine civilian patrols have been established in Nantou County to protect Taiwan’s endangered leopard cat population, the Council of Agriculture (COA) said in a statement yesterday.
The patrols are part of a pilot program launched by the Endemic Species Research Institute in 2019, which offers government grants to residents in Nantou and Miaoli counties to engage in the protection of the local populations of the small wild cat, it said. ....

Taipei, March 3 (CNA) A rescued leopard cat kept by the Taipei Zoo gave birth to three kittens on Tuesday, the first such births for the zoo in 20 years, zoo officials said Wednesday.
Leopard cat Ping Ping (平平) gave birth at 5:43 p.m., 6 p.m. and 6:20 p.m., officials said, adding that mating behavior was recorded last December between Ping Ping and Hsiao Yu (小魚), another rescued leopard cat kept by the zoo.
To keep Ping Ping calm and fully rested, she has been separated from the kittens, whose genders remain unknown at the moment, said Taipei Zoo spokesman Eric Tsao (曹先紹). ....
