KRA Awards Safaricom for being top Taxpayer
Safaricom PLC has been awarded the 2020 top taxpayer in the country under the Large Taxpayers category by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), a ceremony that took place at the Michael Joseph Centre, Nairobi.
KRA, the agency responsible for the efficient assessment and collection of revenue (taxes) on behalf of the Government, honoured Safaricom for “outstanding contribution to the development of our economy through diligent payment of taxes.”
“We also acknowledge that this recognition of top taxpayer, which we have now won 13 years in a row, is a result of our commitment to make a difference by supporting the economy through job creation, duties and taxes and meaningful partnerships,” said Peter Ndegwa, Chief Executive Officer, Safaricom.   ....

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, February 3, raided a company along Kangundo road in Umoja area.
During the raid, the detectives retrieved 80 drums what is alleged to be illegal alcohol as well as Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Stamps.
Sleuths are currently on the ground and are investigating the matter further.

Summary
The number of Kenyans filing tax returns is projected to jump 25 percent to 5.5million this year, helped by ongoing campaigns on voluntary disclosure, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has said.
The taxman targets to net an additional 1.1 million tax filling for the 2019/2020 fiscal year firming a trend from the previous year when 4.4million Kenyans filed their taxes up from 3.6million supported by the KRA’s Voluntary Tax Disclosure Programme (VTDP).

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has pinned hopes on new taxes and waivers introduced this month to shore up revenues in an economy hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic.
KRA missed its tax collection target by over Sh186 billion since March, when the virus was first reported in Kenya, according to the taxman’s data for the eight months to November 2020.
The beginning of this month saw KRA roll out the minimum tax, digital services tax and the Voluntary Tax Disclosure Programme (VTDP), where taxpayers get relief on penalties and interests on undisclosed taxes dating back to July 2015. ....
