The TIPRA and the INPT had contested the TTAADC polls as alliance partners on April 6 and won 18 out of the total 28 seats.
TIPRA chairman Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman told reporters, the merger was a post-poll unification to achieve the common goal of forming Greater Tipraland. Greater Tipraland is an extension of the IPFTs demand of Tipraland, a separate state for the tribals of Tripura.

Agartala, April 19 : After a landslide victory, the newly formed TIPRA Motha , which in the April 6 elections had defeated the ruling BJP-IPFT alliance, took over the governance of the politically important Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday announced that they would boycott the swearing-in-ceremony of the newly elected members and no leaders of the Indigenous People s Front of Tripura was seen at the event held at the TTAADC headquarters in Khumulwng, 20 km north of Agartala.

Agartala, April 14 : A new phenomenon of political violence has emerged in Tripura with at least 25 incidents of political hostility registered by the police after the declarations of results of elections to the politically important Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) as both the attackers and the victims are tribals.
Police officials on Wednesday said that the cadres and workers of the newly formed TIPRA Motha , which secured a landslide victory in the TTAADC polls by defeating the ruling BJP-IPFT candidates, attacked many offices and members of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
