Malaysia and Indonesia to meet over maids MOU

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia and Indonesia will resume fresh talks towards signing the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on recruitment and placement of domestic helpers, says Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.
The Human Resources Minister said he participated in a virtual discussion with his Indonesian counterpart, Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah, on May 6 to express the intention of both sides to proceed with the negotiations virtually.
“The discussion with the Indonesians was to resume talks to finalise the MOU on the recruitment and placement of Indonesian domestic helpers as soon as possible,” he said in a statement yesterday. ....

Help wanted on hiring foreign maids


Waiting to be placed: Maids who have been waiting to come to Malaysia to work have gone instead to other countries like Singapore and Hong Kong due to the border closure.
PETALING JAYA: Maid agencies have applied to bring in new foreign maids since the government’s announcement allowing for new hires but so far no response has been received.
The National Association of Human Resources Malaysia (Pusma) president Zarina Ismail said many of its members have applied to get new domestic helpers through the Foreign Workers Centralised Management System (FWCMS) but no approval had been given.
“We have yet to receive any official directive or proper response on this, ” she said when contacted yesterday. ....

SINGAPORE, April 1 Foreign worker levies for all S Pass and work permit holders, including foreign domestic workers, will be waived for the duration of their stay-home notices from January till September, said the Ministry of Manpower (MoM).
In a press release today (April 1), the MoM said that the move is to help employers manage the increased costs associated with additional measures set in place to reduce the risk of importing Covid-19 into the community. ....
