Over the last decade, EU policy has employed both an
indirect, context-shaping approach to climate security, which focuses more on process than output, and a protective-autonomy approach, which focuses on multiple defensive approaches to safeguard the EU’s geopolitical interests.
In putting these approaches into practice, the EU has advanced a rich profusion of climate security initiatives; diplomats certainly do not need to be told that “climate policy is foreign policy,” as they have been working on this assumption for more than a decade. Moreover, the EU’s approach has positioned the bloc well to play a constructive role in climate geopolitics. However, the union’s overall approach to climate security has been relatively narrow. It has built select climate elements into its existing security strategies rather than rethinking what security itself entails in a world challenged by widespread ecological disruptions. ....

EU, GIZ and FAO sign agreement to implement agriculture, forestry project in Mongolia

On 15 April 2021, the European Union Ambassador to Mongolia Traian Hristea, the Country Director of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Daniel Passon, the Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) in Mongolia Vinod Ahuja, and GIZ Project Manager Dr. Michael Trockenbrodt signed a Multi-Partner Contribution Agreement to implement a new cooperation project.
The new cooperation project is called “Sustainable Resilient Ecosystem and Agriculture Management in Mongolia” or “STREAM” in short. STREAM aims at increasing the capacity of Mongolian communities to implement innovative and sustainable long-term landscape management to address food system challenges and climate stresses. ....

FAO rolls out Shs1.4b climate change project

The programme will benefit 6,000 cattle rearing households in Nakaseke and Luweero districts.
The project worth Shs1.4billion under the Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) comes at a time when parts of the cattle corridor areas of Nakaseke and Luweero are experiencing adverse effects of tree cutting and bush clearing for charcoal production.
Under the project, benefiting communities will be trained in ecosystem adaptation and mitigation, and the diocese will also establish functional watershed management systems. ....
