A clutch of ‘budget friendly’ new round the world races for sailor-owners has tapped into renewed enthusiasm for adventure and endurance sailing. All three new events are set to take off in 2023.
The Global Solo Race non-stop single handed round the world race, planned for 2023, has already attracted 12 entries. It is organised by Italian sailor Marco Nannini, who took part in Josh Hall’s Global Ocean Race for Class 40s in 2011, and set up the Global Solo Race with Hall. ....

Australian Kevin Le Poidevin took the plunge in 2017 and purchased Roaring Forty, a Lutra BOC Open 40, to fulfil his lifelong dream to break the single-handed unassisted Around Australia race record and then the 40ft Around the World unassisted and non-stop record.
His military training, experience, drive and discipline make him a very strong entry in the Global Solo Challenge 2023.
Where does your passion for sailing come from?
Being close to the water has a calming and restorative effect on me that is difficult to explain, so I am not going to keep the mystery alive! You either feel it, or you buy a farm out west. Dad was born on the small island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands and proudly served on HMS Ark Royal and HMS Cumberland. Mum was a tailoress on Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton. ....

At 350 miles SW of the Azores this morning Charlie Dalin (Apivia) is still proving able to hold off the advance of Louis Burton (Bureau VallÃ©e 2) as they negotiate a key phase looking to be able to transition from the north side of the Azores high pressure into the low pressure train. Burton has been fast coming back from his westerly option, converging into the super consistent Dalin to see their lateral separation dropping all the time to 55 miles this morning.
Boris Herrmann (Seaexplorer-Yacht Club de Monaco) is 90 miles behind Dalin as they approach the island group. ....
