Concerts and discussions are being held online to mark 50 years since the first World Roma Congress in 1971. The Czech Philharmonic will be performing a gala concert with Romani musician Ida Kelarová, while the Museum of Romani Culture is marking its own 30th anniversary. The day has been celebrated since 1990. The first international meeting of Romani representatives was held on 8 April 1971 near London. The first World Roma Congress laid the foundations for establishing the International Romani Union. Participants from 14 countries, including the former Czechoslovakia, adopted the Romani anthem and flag, as well as the official designation of themselves with the term Roma .
