Community asks for cards for Lt. Col. William Bonelli, a WWII pilot turning 100 years old

He s been a survivor long before this pandemic. In the Pacific, I was a mechanic on the B-17, said Bonelli, who piloted the WWII bomber on more than 30 missions through Nazi Germany and Italy. He survived Pearl Harbor. This year, he s been battling a new enemy: cancer. I m probably more surprised than anyone else that I m still here and talking, he said. His family wasn t sure he d see his next birthday, so they threw him an early party last fall, attracting first responders from all over Montgomery County to pay their respects. At 99 years and 353 days, he has only one more thing he wants to accomplish.

WWII veteran who raised millions for UK health workers targeted online before death

© Twitter @captaintommoore Capt. Sir Tom Moore, the British World War II veteran who raised millions for health workers amid the coronavirus pandemic, was the target of online abuse in the weeks leading up to his death earlier this month.  The veteran’s daughter, Hannah Ingram-Moore, told BBC Wednesday that while her 100-year-old father mostly received waves of online support for his fundraising efforts, there was also a “vile minority” that sent messages of hate.  Ingram-Moore said that her family decided to keep the online hate notes a secret from the veteran, who earlier this month died days after being hospitalized to receive treatment for pneumonia after contracting COVID-19.
