Women's Committee open nominations for the Award of Excellence — World Triathlon

In a time like this, the World Triathlon Women’s Committee feels it is more important than ever to continue its tradition of honouring women in the sport of triathlon. Therefore we are pleased to announce that the application process for the 2021 Award of Excellence is open. This year’s Award of Excellence (AOE) presentation is planned to take place at the World Triathlon Congress in Edmonton, Canada. National Federations are encouraged to nominate an individual or an organisation that has made a significant and meaningful contribution to women’s involvement at all levels of the sport of triathlon and para triathlon. Nominations will be evaluated by the AOE selection committee including an external peer review panel that will carefully weigh each nominees’ relevant awards and honours, accomplishments in advancing women in triathlon, and the nominator’s endorsement of the individual or organisation. ....

Host Cities, with the endorsement of their respective National Federation, can bid to host a World Triathlon Championship Finals in 2023 or 2024, the crown jewel of World Triathlon’s annual calendar. Previous hosts have included such cities as London, Budapest, Beijing, Auckland, Chicago, Gold Coast and Lausanne, with the next ones planned in Edmonton in 2021 and Abu Dhabi in 2022.
The World Triathlon Championships Finals creates an instant economic impact by bringing in a significant number of international tourists to the Host City, consisting of over 5,000 competitors, support teams, officials, family and friends. Victorious Casado seeks multi-sport and Olympic expansion for World Triathlon

Marisol Casado, for many years the only female President of a Summer Olympic International Federation, has recently maintained her position at a sporting altitude still largely populated by men – and she plans to drive further change within World Triathlon until at least 2024.
The 64-year-old Spaniard was elected to serve a fourth term as President after seeing off challenger Mads Freund in a virtual vote at the organisation’s Congress on November 29. She will remain a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) following her victory by 86 votes to 43.
After a particularly bitter election in which she was cleared by the IOC’s Ethics Commission of last-minute charges of gross and multiple violations of the values, principles and regulations ....
