Thiruvananthapuram, April 16 : The Uralungal Cooperative Society was formed by the eminent social reformer Saint Vagbhatananda in a remote rural hamlet called Uralungal in Vadakara of Kozhikode district of Kerala in 1925.
In 1924, one of the then local newspapers published an article on a notification of Malabar District Board under British rule inviting people to form cooperatives in the Malabar region. This led 14 young people to form the Uralungal Workers Cooperative Society, which gives equality among them.
The growth of the cooperative from a 37 paise British Indian currency to Rs 5,000 crore Indian rupees in a period of 96 years was achieved by its ethical practices of labour welfare and vigilant measures of Capital accountability . ....

Rolling protest organizer may have summer trial

On June 21, DeVries organized a North Conway protest he called “Skate Away the Hate,” which involved people riding bicycles and skateboards down White Mountain Highway from Schouler Park to Depot Road and back.
At the protest, DeVries spoke through a bullhorn and listed demands that he said came from local chapters of Black Lives Matter.
“If we divest funds from police and prison systems, we all benefit,” said DeVries. “Those funds can go to local communities and social services.”
The following month, DeVries was charged with six counts of possessing child sexual abuse images, one count of possession of hallucinogenic psilocybin mushrooms and one count of falsifying physical evidence. ....

The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) has formally welcomed its new Secretary General & CEO, theologian Dr. Thomas Schirrmacher, in a ceremony live-streamed on Saturday from Bonn, Germany.
Evangelical leaders representing 9 regional and 140 national Evangelical Alliances around the world joined the event online with greetings, prayers and blessings to induct the new leadership.
Beginning the ceremony, WEA s Chair of the International Council, Rev. Dr. Goodwill Shana led attendees with a devotion from Acts 2:42 and 2:45.
As WEA enters a new era, may the Lord grant that we see continuity, renewal and transformation through our new leadership, he said. ....
