Four people have been arrested, and drugs and weapons seized, during a Garda operation in Clonmel targeting organised crime.
Ten houses in Clonmel were searched in the operation which started at 7am this morning, leading to the seizure of 18,000 euro worth of suspected cocaine, cannabis herb and amphetamines.
Two suspected imitation firearms were also discovered, as well as an assortment of weapons such as slash hooks.
One man (30’s) is detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 whilst two other men (20’s & 30’s) are detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. All three are detained at Clonmel Garda Station. ....

Army called in to serve meals after 19 cases diagnosed
Staff at a nursing home where the army had been called in to assist during a Covid-19 outbreak did not know who was running the centre.
Members of the Defence Forces were asked to serve meals and carry out other non-clinical tasks after 19 residents at the Cahercalla Community Hospital and Hospice, Ennis, Co Clare, tested positive for the virus in January this year.
Inspectors from the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) also visited the 112-bed facility operated by the Cahercalla Community Hospital Company Limited at this time. ....

Taskforce chief says mandatory hotel quarantine is 'working well'


The Defence Forces commander in charge of the joint taskforce handling Ireland s Covid-19 response has defended the controversial mandatory hotel quarantine scheme. He insisted it is now working well , but admitted he was not surprised about three men leaving the quarantine system last weekend.
In an interview with the Sunday Independent, Brigadier General Brendan McGuinness said greater clarity for air passengers obliged to stay at mandatory quarantine hotels has been instrumental in no one else fleeing their accommodation since dramatic scenes last Saturday saw three men bolting from the Crowne Plaza in Dublin.
The Defence Forces role in mandatory hotel quarantine is to co-ordinate the State response and support the lead agencies - the HSE and Department of Health. ....
