We know that the police are the most despised institution in our country, according to various polls, such as the ratings put out by Transparency International and also other groups. We also know that the perception of people that they are corrupt, dishonest, poorly trained, and guilty of many acts of violence against those they hold captive are true.
But this poorly trained force is expected to deal with problems which are beyond what it can manage. There is, of course, no excuse at all for the use of torture and extrajudicial killings by the police. But we also need to understand more about this force given that it is essential to maintaining any kind of order in a country that badly lacks it and where rule of law appears to have crumbled completely over the years. ....

The Samad al Shaaa Astronomical Observatory in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi has been organizing many field activities, events, and programs since its inception in 2014.
The head of the Samad Astronomical Observatory said that the observatory has taken upon itself to spread the culture of astronomy in Mudhaibi, North al Sharqiya Governorate in particular, and the Sultanate in general.
It has participated in many astronomical events in the Sultanate and is part of the Oman Vision 2040 and a large number of citizens benefited from the events, lectures, and seminars. ....

ISLAMABAD: On the first day of perusal of PTI accounts on Tuesday, the ECPs Scrutiny Committee disallowed the use of laptops or computers by two chartered accountants, allowed by the ECP on behalf of the petitioner. It is pertinent to mention that the Election Commission of Pakistan, in its order of April 14, 2021, had authorised two financial analysts/chartered accountants to scrutinise the PTI accounts on behalf of the petitioner Akbar S Babar and the perusal of PTI documents was to begin on April 27 in line with the ECP order. It was learnt from sources, privy to the development, as the perusal of initial set of documents started, the PTI objected to the use of laptops by the two chartered accountants/financial experts, nominated by the petitioner. Ms Saima Tariq, Deputy Director (Law), who was supervising the process, initially allowed use of laptops.
