Update: On Friday, Feb. 5, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives voted 202-0 in favor of SB 109. The bill will now move to Governor Wolf s desk for approval. The beginnings of a silver lining may be appearing for Pennsylvania restaurants after state Senate members voted in favor of a $145 million relief package for the industry. On Wednesday, the state senators voted 48-0 in favor of SB 109, which creates the Hospitality Industry Recovery Program and provides $145 million in relief for restaurants across the commonwealth. Sen. Joe Pittman (R-Armstrong) sponsored the bill. We thank the Senate for acting to help those in the industry who have been most impacted by prevention and mitigation orders during the pandemic. But hopefully, this is just the start of the General Assembly helping the many mom and pop hospitality establishments that make up the backbone of every Pennsylvania town across the Commonwealth, Pennsylvania Licensed Beverage and Tavern Assoc ....

Skyrocketing coronavirus cases have led to more business restrictions in Pennsylvania for the next three weeks, including no indoor dining, closing gyms and pausing high school sports until Jan. 4. Gov. Tom Wolf announced late Thursday afternoon an order prohibiting indoor dining and closing theaters, casinos and other similar entertainment, recreational or social facilities through the holidays. Bucks County officials and restaurant owners expressed disappointment. One Bucks business owner met the announcement with defiance, saying his fitness center would remain open. I certainly understand the Governor felt he needed to do something to stem the high tide of cases. However, I do feel very badly for the affected businesses, and was hoping we could have been successful reducing the cases prior to implementing any additional restrictions, county Health Department Director Dr. David Damsker said in an email Thursday evening. ....
