On Saturday, May 14, the east and west railroad line through Southeastern Oklahoma and Southwestern Arkansas will be opened for traffic. For all purposes of commerce the De Queen & Eastern and the Texas, Oklahoma & Eastern railroads will become one. The rich territory east of De Queen and the productive lands west of De Queen will find a common outlet for fruits of farm and field. And all of the towns along both roads will gather at De Queen on traffic opening day, Saturday, May 14, to fittingly celebrate the important event.  
Miss Rose Phillips has been employed as one of the teachers of Central school in Frog Level.  ....

Two prominent Minneapolis foundations are forming what leaders are calling a partnership to boost equity initiatives.
The Minneapolis Foundation announced Thursday a new strategic operating partnership with the Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation of Minnesota, the longstanding north Minneapolis organization that s donated millions of dollars to the city s North Side.
The move, effective at the end of March, means the Phillips Foundation will pay the Minneapolis Foundation to run Phillips administrative services and deliver its grants, said R.T. Rybak, president of the Minneapolis Foundation. ....

Sheboygan County election: Mayor race, school board on April 6 ballot


SHEBOYGAN - Voters will head to the polls again on April 6 to choose between Jill Underly and Deborah Kerr for state superintendent of public instruction and decide on other local races and referendums.
Among the contested races to keep an eye on in Sheboygan are the races for mayor, City Council District 2 and school board.
Samantha Bastil is running unopposed to fill Judge L. Edward Stengel s spot as judge for Sheboygan County Circuit Court s Branch 1. Stengel announced his retirement in November after 36 years as a judge in the county and eight as district attorney. Bastil worked in the District Attorney’s Office for six years. In 2017, she was hired as the county s assistant corporation counsel. Last year, she began working at the Calumet County District Attorney’s Office. ....

New exhibition to reveal 'A Place Within'


PANAMA CITY For Victoria Rose Phillips, a change of scenery inspired the chance to reveal something from inside herself.
“When my words fail to express what is in my heart, I allow my work to speak for me,” Phillips said.
The Atlanta-based artist s work will be featured in a new exhibition, A Place Within, opening Monday, Feb. 8, at Gulf Coast State College s Amelia Center Gallery, presented by the GCSC Visual & Performing Arts Division. In addition to the show, Phillips will present an artist lecture via Zoom at 1 p.m. Feb. 12. 
Many of the paintings in this exhibit were created in Skopelos, Greece, where Ms. Phillips completed an artist residency at the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts, gallery director and instructor Pavel Amromin said in a recent email. While there, she was inspired by the mountainous landscapes paired with the endless ocean views. ....
