PASADENA (CNS) - The 2021 Rose Bowl game has been relocated from Pasadena to Texas, leaving Southern California without its signature New Year s sporting event for the first time since 1942.  
Officials announced Saturday that the game a College Football Playoff semifinal will played at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Jan. 1, 2021.  
The decision was based on “the growing number of COVID-19 cases in Southern California along with the inability to host player and coach guests at any game in California, according to a statement from the Pasadena Tournament of Roses.  
“We know that the decision was not an easy one to make, said David Eads, Tournament of Roses CEO and executive director. “While we remain confident that a game could have been played at the Rose Bowl Stadium, as evident in the other collegiate and professional games taking place in the region, the projection of COVID-19 cases in the region has continued ....

The unevenness of a season played in the midst of a pandemic contributed to one of the most controversial semifinal pairings of the College Football Playoff era.
Players and coaches were sidelined by COVID-19, and numerous games were canceled as the sport limped to a tense finish line with the final CFP rankings revealed Sunday, with Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Notre Dame selected in the top four.
No. 1 Alabama and No. 4 Notre Dame will meet in The Rose Bowl Game presented by Capital One on Jan. 1 at 4 p.m. ET, followed by No. 2 Clemson and No. 3 Ohio State in the Allstate Sugar Bowl at 8 p.m. Both games will air on ESPN. ....

CFP moves Rose Bowl game to Texas, citing California spectator ban

The College Football Playoff semifinal scheduled to be played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on Jan. 1 is relocating to the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium in Texas, a move prompted by California’s ban on spectators at sporting events during the pandemic.

Bill Hancock said Saturday night that conference commissioners who make up the CFP management committee and the Tournament of Roses mutually agreed to relocate the game because of the “growing number of COVID-19 cases in Southern California.”
“The game in Dallas will still be played in the mid-afternoon window on New Year’s Day,” Hancock said in a statement. “We are pleased that parents and loved ones will now be able to see their students play in the game.” ....
