In addition to Best School Delegation, Hoboken High School students also earned the following awards: • Juliet Hysen and Leah Haber won best delegate honorable mention in the Commission on the Status of Women regarding the Increase in Gender-Based Domestic Violence During the Covid-19 Pandemic and Intersection of Racism and Misogyny: Perceived Skin Tone and Women’s Rights. • Feline Dirxx and Kia Hulstrom won best position paper in the Environmental Assembly for their analysis of the Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Environmental Regulation and Enforcement and addressing Trans-border Environmental Stresses in the Indo-Pak Region. ....
Hudson Reporter Awards for Hoboken High School’s Model United Nations Team × The 2021 St. Peter s University Model United Nations Conference was held virtually due to the pandemic. The Hoboken High School Model United Nations Team competed in the 2021 St. Peter’s University Model United Nations Debate Competition bringing home several awards. This year’s competition was held remotely over a two-day period due to COVID-19 which was also a focus of the competition with participants working with students from around the world to address global issues surrounding the pandemic. This year, Hoboken High School earned the Best Overall School Delegation for its Outstanding Performance in Discourse and Diplomacy. Hoboken High School students also brought home a myriad of individual awards. ....

Millions of Americans and up to billions worldwide are already, or will become, victims of what the experts declare, euphemistically, as “food insecurity.” Last spring, early in the pandemic, my grandson Keith, who along with his girlfriend worked in the restaurant industry and lost their jobs, sent me a personal message on Facebook, saying, “I am hungry, Grandpa.” The stimulus check they had received barely covered the rent on their apartment. I sent a check for $300 so they could buy food until their unemployment checks arrived. An experienced painter, he has since found enough customers to survive. ....
