The Congress on Wednesday said the arrest of Guwahati-based writer Sikha Sarma is a “legal matter” but asked the BJP-led government why no action has been taken against those posting hate messages against her on social media following her Facebook post on April 5 for which she was accused in an FIR of “causing disrespect to martyrs”.
Sarma was sent to judicial custody after Dispur police produced her in the chief judicial magistrate’s court here on Wednesday afternoon.

New Delhi:Â Sikha Sarma, a Guwahati-based writer, has been charged with sedition and was arrested on Tuesday for a Facebook post written after the death of 22 jawans in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh.
Guwahati police commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta told
Indian Express that Sarma was arrested under âvarious sections, including IPC 124A (sedition)â.

Guwahati: The Assam police have arrested Guwahati-based writer Sikha Sarma for allegedly making controversial comments against Martyrs on social media, police said on Wednesday.
Guwahati Police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta said that the 48-year-old Assamese writer was arrested on Tuesday on various charges including sedition for her alleged Facebook post on security forces after 22 security personnel were killed in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh on Sunday. Seeking judicial custody, Sarma would be produced in court soon, Gupta told IANS over phone.

GUWAHATI: The Dispur Police arrested renowned writer Sikha Sarma on Tuesday for allegedly making controversial comments against Martyrs on social media.
Sarma was arrested following an FIR lodged by Umi Deka Baruah and Kangkana Goswami. She was summoned by the Dispur Police and was arrested after a thorough interrogation. The Dispur Police Station has registered the under case number 1281/ 21 u/s 294 (a)/124(A)/500/506 IPC, R/W section 45 of IT Act.
