Salty Dawg Offers Full Rally Schedule for 2021 By Sandy Parks · On May 14, 2021 Even through the pandemic over the last year, the Salty Dawg Sailing Association found ways to run rallies for cruisers. The most impressive effort was a year ago when the SDSA organized the Homeward Bound rally for cruisers in the Caribbean who wanted to sail in company back to the States, often with crews that were not as numerous or experienced as they would have been in normal years. Some 184 boats made the passage while the SDSA provided daily weather information, communications and tracking for each boat. And, they ran the rally for free. It was an amazingly complex and generous effort. Well, in 2021, the SDSA is offering a full calendar of rallies for cruisers that emphasize, as always, safe offshore sailing and cruising with an emphasis on camaraderie, cooperation and fun. Cruising: Honoring Remarkable Ocean Voyages and Seamanship Author: Adrien and Calypso’s travels have included a number of voyages to Antarctica The Cruising Club of America, an organization of about 1,300 offshore sailors, has been honoring remarkable ocean voyages and seamanship with an array of prestigious awards for nearly 100 years. The club’s highest honor, the Blue Water Medal, has recognized renowned and little-known sailors alike, from Sir Robin Knox-Johnston to the British mariners who rescued untold thousands of Allied troops from the beaches of Dunkirk in 1940. The CCA also gives an award for acts of exceptional seamanship and rescue, and most recently (in 2016) established what it calls its Young Voyager Award, recognizing “a young sailor who has made one or more exceptional voyages.” The inaugural awardee was polar voyager Erik de Jong. Salty Dawg Sailing Association Celebrates 10 Years, Launches New Website – Advertisement – Just in time for their tenth anniversary, the Salty Dawg Sailing Association (SDSA) has rolled out their new and updated website, www.SaltyDawgSailing.org. The latest website is part of the SDSA’s enhanced association management software application that will help make the organization more efficient and interactive. The site has the 2021 Rally Schedule posted, including the East Coast Rally from the Caribbean to the east coast of the US, the brand new DelMarVa Rally, and the Downeast Rally to Maine, not to mention the fall Rally to the Caribbean. All rallies and events will be managed as before and consistent with COVID-19 regulations and guidelines. Members can register and pay for Rallies, Rendezvous, and SDSA Events through the website.
