Some close friends are going to holiday in the Apple Isle in the next few weeks. They were able to secure flights and accommodation for reasonable prices, but were stunned at the cost of car hire. It is near impossible to secure basic car hire for less than $1000 a week which makes a fly-drive holiday rather expensive. I can t recall car hire being that expensive pre-COVID and wonder if this is just car rental companies taking advantage of travel starved Australians.

CoreLogic’s Best of the Best 2020 Report has determined Australia’s top performer in residential real estate over 2020, analysing a variety of measures, including property value growth, sales and rental yields.
According to CoreLogic’s Head of Research Australia Eliza Owen, this year’s report highlighted the resilience of luxury markets in Australia, where the highest median house value was once again in Darling Point, and the highest median unit value was found in Point Piper, as with 2019. ....

The tropical Whitsunday town where units cost less than $80,000 and the towns with $60,000 houses

Queensland s tropical Whitsunday has coastal units available for less than $80,000 while Australia s cheapest towns have houses for just $60,000.
Real estate data group CoreLogic has revealed the regional areas where it s possible to buy a home for less than the price of a new four-wheel drive, and some of them are in surprisingly pleasant areas near idyllic beaches.
When it came to apartments Laguna Quays, near Hamilton Island in north Queensland s Whitsunday region, has Australia s cheapest median unit price of $76,123.
For that price, it is possible to buy an apartment near a resort and a golf course.
Australia s cheapest towns have median house prices of less than $60,000 while Queensland s tropical Whitsunday has units available for just $80,000. Pictured is a holiday unit at Dolphins Heads in Mackay selling for just $60,000 ....
