Uttarakhand Floods: Two More Bodies Recovered from Tunnel, Death Toll Rises to 58
Eleven of the bodies were recovered from the tunnel at the National Thermal Power Corporation s Tapovan-Vishnugad project site, where about 30 people were initially feared trapped.

Tapovan/Dehradun: Two more bodies were recovered early Tuesday from the Tapovan tunnel where efforts were underway on the 10th consecutive day to reach workers feared trapped inside after a flash flood in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.
The confirmed death toll in the Chamoli disaster has now mounted to 58 and another 148 people are missing, an official said.

Uttarakhand Police on Sunday asserted that the Alaknanda River at Srinagar in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand is flowing at a normal level, no alert has been issued by the district administration in this regard. Meanwhile, a total of 50 bodies have been recovered so far in the Uttarakhand glacier burst, out of which, 25 have been identified, Uttarakhand police informed. A total of 12 bodies have been recovered on Sunday. Five from Tapovan tunnel, six from Raini village, and one from Rudraprayag, said an official statement.

Three more bodies were recovered on Monday from the flood-ravaged Tapovan tunnel, taking the toll in the glacial disaster in Uttarakhand to 53. The bodies were recovered this morning from the Adit tunnel at the NTPC s Tapovan-Vishnugad project site, Chamoli District Magistrate, Swati S Bhadauria said. Rescue efforts are now underway at the Silt Flushing Tunnel (SFT) only with the help of excavators as a camera or a pipe cannot be inserted due to mounds of sludge and water choking it, the district magistrate said.
