KOTA KINABALU: Sabah s rural tourism players are not losing hope and keeping their eco-tourism products intact for the industry to make a comeback in the future. Despite the slowdown in tourism since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the rural tourism operators are committed to ensuring their community-based eco-tourism areas are always well-kept to welcome future visitors. One such place is Kisakot Eco Tourism at Kampung Melangkap Tiong where villagers are pooling resources to build several rest huts to improve the existing infrastructure facilities. Kadamaian Tourism Association chairman Walter Kandayon said Kisakot Eco-Tourism was among more than 80 rural tourism operators in Kadamaian who had successfully obtained approval for a RM20,000 grant application under the Sabah New Deal. ....

The movie, titled Kusai – Lelaki Dusun Terakhir, began shooting on Monday (Dec 14). Local film producer Chester Pang and director Ramli Carlo said they decided to include tourist sites as shooting locations due to Kiulu s nature and beauty. I was so impressed with Kiulu s natural beauty and scenic views, said Pang during a meeting with state Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai here on Tuesday (Dec 15). Stop Fish Bomb Sabah Malaysia Executive Director Terrence Lim said during the organisation’s past projects, it had helped the authorities to obtain blasting data through their technology. “Early this year, through 12 sensors, Sabah Parks managed to charge five people in two fish bombing cases off Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park here. ADVERTISEMENT “For the next course of action, we plan to increase the number of sensors to be deployed throughout the State. The cost is estimated to be around RM5 million,” he said during a webinar hosted by Blu Hope on “‘Fish-Bomb-Free Sabah’ Alongside Sabah Plastic Neutral”. ....
