Pakistan s ambassador to Thailand is bringing Gandhara, in north-west Pakistan, to the Thailand National Museum, in a manner of speaking, to commemorate the Thai–Pakistani 70th diplomatic relationship.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad completes his four-year diplomatic mission in Thailand at the end of this month.
To cement his diplomatic legacy, with help from the Thailand Fine Arts department, he has organised the Grand Gandhara Buddhist Exhibition to be staged later this year.
This is one of the parts of our 70 years celebration, he said.
It will be held at the Thailand National Museum Bangkok. We are working with the Department of Fine Arts, museum authority and Ministry of Culture. ....

Islamabad: A delegation of Buddhist monks from Sri Lanka arrived in Pakistan for a week-long pilgrimage and visit to ancient Gandhara archaeological sites. The visit is aimed at strengthening cultural ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka based on shared Buddhist heritage.
The monks began their journey with a visit to the Lahore Museum which houses some of the finest remains of the Gandhara civilisation and rare Buddhist relics including the jewel of the museum ‘Fasting Buddha’ and ‘Sikri Stupa’ dating back to the 2nd century. Gandhara was the most important Buddhist learning centre between the 2nd century BC and AD 7th century. ....

LAHORE: A 14-member delegation, comprising senior Buddhist monks from Sri Lanka, visited various sections of Badshahi Masjid and Lahore Fort on Tuesday and appreciated the rich heritage of Pakistan. The delegation was led by Dr Walpole Piyananda, who is the abbot and president of Dharma Vijaya Buddhist Vihara, USA.
The delegation left for Islamabad on Tuesday after concluding their two-day visit to the provincial metropolis. Earlier, Dr Piyananda said that Pakistan had always helped Sri Lanka in the hour of need.
He said that every religion had given a message of peace and harmony. He hoped that the Pakistan government would take further steps to promote religious tourism and appreciated the efforts of the government in this regard. ....

LAHORE: A 14-member delegation comprising senior Buddhist monks from Sri Lanka arrived in the provincial metropolis Monday to undertake a week-long religious pilgrimage to various Buddhist heritage sites in the country. The Buddhist monks started their journey with a visit of the Lahore Museum which houses some of the finest remains of the Gandhara civilization and rare Buddhist relics including the ‘Fasting Buddha’ and ‘Sikri Stupa’ dating back to the 2 BC. The visit has been arranged by the High Commission of Pakistan in Colombo, Sri Lanka, with a view to promote religious tourism in Pakistan by showcasing historic city and warm hospitality of the host nation. Pakistan is home to the ancient Buddhist civilization which has remained hidden from the eye of the world over the years.
