Even though this year has been tough, that has not stopped an incredibly determined woman from helping and supporting the community in any way she can, and I was lucky enough to interview her recently. She told me what she had learnt is that ‘there are so many willing people, they just need a cause to support’.   
Lydia Loxton is a kindergarten teacher and Charities Coordinator at The Roche School. ‘As and when a parent or a member of staff pitches something and says look, I feel strongly about this, can we raise extra money for it?’, Lydia brings it to fruition and this year she says that ‘there is lots going on’. ....

Food Bank Friday collects 450 items

Deborah Burton, who has a child attending the Washington Montessori school, began a well-run effort called Food Bank Friday to collect needed nonperishables for local food pantries in Bethlehem and Litchfield.
Specific food items that are needed were requested of Montessori parents who could drive by the school to donate the food. A recent collection resulted in 450 nonperishable items and homemade cookies for the pantries.
To beat the winter storm, Deborah brought her son, Jude Celebi, with her to unload boxes at St. Michael’s-Litchfield community house. Food Pantry volunteer Ann Hodgman of Morris welcomed the duo, saying these items would be helping to serve 75 families in the local area. ....
