AmeriCorps team finishes three weeks working with Feeding South Dakota in Pierre, headed to Rapid City next

Today (Feb. 26, 2021), a team from AmeriCorps is finishing up a three week stay in Pierre helping Feeding South Dakota staff with a variety of tasks to supply food to those in need.
Team leader Hillary Johnson says they are serving through the National Civilian Community Corps program.
preparing shelf-stable, cooler and freezer food boxes and bags for distribution;
repackaging bulk food items;
deep cleaning the warehouses;
setting up, implementing and taking down mobile distribution sites to provide South Dakota communities with emergency food in a drive-up, contact-free manner

All told Farmers Union Enterprises donated 150,000 pounds of pork ribs to various food pantries in the five states it supports.

Farmers Union Enterprises teamed up with South Dakota Farmers Union to donate 35,000 pounds of pork ribs to Feeding South Dakota.
“COVID-19 continues to impact jobs and many South Dakota families continue to see their grocery budget shrink. We see this as a way to help,” explains Doug Sombke, President of Farmers Union Enterprises.
Sombke is also President of one of the state’s largest farm and ranch organizations, South Dakota Farmers Union.
The donation comes at a time when demand for food has doubled, due to job losses during the COVID-19 pandemic, explains Jennifer Stensaas, Communications Coordinator for Feeding South Dakota. “As we approach nearly a year of service since the pandemic began, we continue to feed many individuals and families who have never needed food assistance before,” she says. “We are grateful to organizations like South Dakota Farmers Union for joining forces with us to help m ....

An AmeriCorps team serving in the National Civilian Community Corps Program (NCCC) is helping the non-profit Feeding South Dakota.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -There’s a group of young people traveling the country helping non-profits. They’ve stopped in South Dakota where food insecurity is at an all-time high due to the pandemic. Their goal is to help fight hunger in the state.
An AmeriCorps team serving in the National Civilian Community Corps Program (NCCC) is helping the non-profit Feeding South Dakota. NCCC is made up of a group of 18 to 24 years-olds that spend ten months serving different non-profits around the U-S. ....
