Some health experts say it is too early for Connecticut to relax COVID-19 restrictions this week; others say state is on correct path

With Connecticut poised to significantly rollback coronavirus restrictions Friday, some health experts and medical professionals worry that the state might be charging ahead too fast, too soon especially as its COVID-19 positivity rate shows signs of increasing once again.
When Gov. Ned Lamont announced in early March that he would soon ease control measures, Connecticut had shown a steady decline in COVID-19 positivity rate, cases and hospitalizations. Since then, however, those numbers have plateaued. About 400 residents are still hospitalized with the disease and the state’s positivity rate has ticked up slightly over the past 10 days. ....

Proposed Bill Would Continue Expanded Outdoor Dining in CT


Now, some want to keep it going a little longer.
“What they asked us to come up with was what did the governor do through his executive orders that helped the industry?” said Rep. David Rutigliano, R – Trumbull.
Rutigliano also along with partners operates seven restaurants in the state.
Right now, Governor Ned Lamont’s restaurant order goes to mid-April.
“Even though the official public health emergency may end, we think that there s some residual effects that will, you know, make it lag in our industry for a little bit of time,” said Rutigliano.
Rutigliano has introduced a bill to continue expanded outdoor dining through this summer or maybe next summer. ....

WEST HARTFORD, Conn While so many restaurants have had to shut their doors because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Restaurant Bricco in West Hartford continues to push through.
“We’ve been here in West Hartford for 25 years so I knew that both my restaurants were in good market places and the take out for me was a very good sign,” said Chef Billy Grant, Owner of Restaurant Bricco in West Hartford and Bricco Trattoria in Glastonbury.
Chef Grant said he is fortunate that Bricco’s doors are open, and hopes other eateries will be able to survive as well. ....
