Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson has been through the wringer

It was Aug. 8, 2008, the opening day of the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. A’ja Wilson was celebrating her 12th birthday with an Olympic-themed party to watch the U.S. women’s basketball team play. That legendary squad included the likes of Seimone Augustus, Sue Bird, Tamika Catchings, Sylvia Fowles, Lisa Leslie, Candace Parker and Diana Taurasi.
“This was my first time seeing WNBA players, and I did not understand how much it really meant to watch women play the game so well and make it look easy,” says Wilson. “I remember saying, ‘These women are badass. They are going after it. That’s how I want to be.’ ” ....

Vanderbilt hires Shea Ralph from UConn as new women's coach


NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Vanderbilt has hired Shea Ralph away from UConn to help revive the Commodores’ struggling women’s basketball program, which hasn’t reached the NCAA Tournament since 2014.
Athletic director Candice Lee announced the hiring Tuesday, a week after firing Stephanie White following five seasons. Ralph will be introduced at a news conference Wednesday.
“Coach Ralph has earned the opportunity to take the reins of our women’s basketball program and transform it into what we all know is possible,” Lee said. “She knows what winning looks like, and she has the background and experience, as both a player and a coach, to develop our student-athletes into champions.” ....
