According to a report from the Salt Lake Tribune, Utahns relied on nonprofits more than ever in 2020, but these nonprofits had much less funding than in the past. The Utah Nonprofit Association conducted a survey and found that some organizations may not survive much longer due to lack of funding.
Of the 121 nonprofits surveyed by the UNA, 74% reported an increase in demands for services while the total revenue across the organizations fell 30%. In addition, the surveyed organizations projected a 37% decline in staffing in 2021 compared to 2019. 1,848 jobs have already been lost between 2019 and 2020.
According to the survey, for many organizations, the lack of funding is a serious issue. 7% of the surveyed nonprofits said they didn’t think they would survive another four months unless they started to receive more funding.
