David Schwendiman: Who will be the next United States attorney for Utah?
It is time for a woman of color to be appointed to the position.

In the next few weeks, the Biden administration will make a significant, but largely unnoticed decision affecting Utah. The president will nominate a new United States attorney and send that person’s name to the Senate for confirmation. Every person in Utah has a stake in who that will be.
The new United States attorney and the 45 attorneys that person will lead wield extraordinary, life-changing power. As important as anything, they are entrusted with the authority to enforce federal laws that protect the vulnerable; laws that, among other things, protect the disadvantaged, the abused and victims of hate crime, discrimination and official misconduct. ....

Nehring, Voices for Utah Children's CEO, said he made a 'terrible mistake' writing checks to himself

The former CEO of the nonprofit Voices for Utah Children recently gave up his law license following allegations that he took money from the prominent child advocacy organization.
Lincoln Nehring resigned his Utah State Bar membership in February as an investigation was pending.
Details of the allegations were outline in a May/June issue of Utah State Bar.
According to the Bar, Nehring submitted checks from Utah Voices Utah Children to another company for “consulting services.”
But one of the nonprofit’s employees was suspicious, according to the Bar Journal, and did some research. That employee discovered the entity that Nehring had written two checks to had been set up and established in his own name. ....

11 The current pandemic or any other disaster or emergency makes regular contact with clients more important than ever. The client needs to know how to contact the lawyer just as the lawyer must know how to contact the clients.
For example, if telephone calls and emails are routed through the firm’s communication system, the lawyers must regularly access office voicemail, email and any other methods of client communication regularly used in the office to ensure no communications are missed. If firm lawyers work remotely, they must have a system in place to regularly handle mail – both timely sending and obtaining that which is delivered to the firm office. ....
