On Cadence Weapon's Parallel World, every song is an audio essay

While the world underwent social and political awakenings at the peak of the pandemic, Cadence Weapon, given name Rollie Pemberton, wanted to compel the world to listen more.
Parallel World is a 26-minute exploratory and moody rap album that uses distinct references to Black experiences, histories and archives in Canada. Some have called it dystopian and dark which the artist admits he finds frustrating.
The album begins with Africville s Revenge, an ode to the nearly 150-year-old Black community in Halifax that was demolished in the 1960s by the City of Halifax. The song was inspired by his new neighbourhood, Little Jamaica, a cultural heritage locus that has been impacted by gentrification, transit construction and the City of Toronto s failure to claim it as a protected heritage district. ....

For Cadence Weapon, recording his newest album Parallel World felt like making beats in the attic again as a teenager back in Edmonton.
“At that time I was recording Breaking Kayfabe, it was like chaos, and I find that I thrive in circumstances like that,” the Toronto-based rapper says of his 2005 debut. “Recording and releasing an album during a pandemic was definitely strange, but it honestly worked for me. I kind of like situations where things are destabilized, or the circumstances are different, flipped on their head. ” ....

Syracuse, NY Redhouse Arts Center has named Actor and Director Temar Underwood as its Associate Director of Artistic Programming. This interim position will allow Redhouse to be able to continue virtual theater programming until it can welcome back live audiences and launch a full Main Stage season again.
Mr Underwood will be act as an Artistic Lead on virtual theatrical programming as well as programming in conjunction with Redhouse’s Education Department and partner organizations.
