Local Family Medicine Student Takes Top Award Published: 16 June 2021 Shane Hervey was one of three 2021 Lundy Award recipients by the Oregon Academy of Family Physicians at the Academy’s Annual Meeting held virtually on April 24, 2021. The Lundy Award The Lundy Award was established in 2000 to honor Mary Gonzales Lundy upon her retirement after 21 years of service as Executive Director of the Academy. This fund provides scholarships to fourth year OHSU medical students who are entering family medicine residency. Hervey was chosen by the Trustees of the Oregon Academy of Family Physicians Foundation Board on the basis of leadership, service to the community, and an essay describing his path to family medicine. The essay also included lessons learned from patients and attributes that will make him a successful family physician.

Lynn Edmondson EAST LIVERPOOL Lynn Edmondson, 68, of East Liverpool, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Calcutta Health Care. She was born on June 11, 1952, in Lodi, Calif., the daughter of the late Leonard and Mildred (Thompson) Preszler. Lynn graduated from Lodi High School in 1970. After graduating, Lynn attended college at University of California, Long Beach where she became a Physical Therapist. She moved to Ohio after taking a position with East Liverpool City Hospital to form and oversee their physical therapy department. Lynn also had a position with Kent State University in East Liverpool where she helped to pilot the Physical Therapy Assistant Program. Lynn then went on to practice on her own at Edmondson Physical Therapy, which was originally located in Calcutta and then moved to downtown East Liverpool.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought about a myriad of challenges and changes that, to say the least, have required some major life adjustments. While many people had to shelter-in-place at some point this year with the ability to work remotely, countless others have put themselves in harm s way working in essential roles. Black workers, especially, are overrepresented in essential jobs. Even though they represent about 12 percent of the total U.S. workforce, Black people hold roughly 14 percent of grocery store jobs, 26 percent of public transit positions, 18 percent of postal service jobs, 17.5 percent of health-care positions, and 19 percent of roles in child-care and social services, according to a 2020 report from the Economic Policy
