Power blackouts are being experienced across Papua New Guinea as workers of PNG Power stage a sit-in protest today.

Post Courier newspaper reports the president of the Energy Workers Union, Eddie Gisa, saying workers are asking the board and management of PNG Power and the government to address their demands set out in a petition handed to the board on Wednesday.

Supreme Court shocked on Information Technology Act still being used


The Supreme Court on Monday expressed “shock” and “amazement” over the manner in which people were still being booked under Section 66A of the Information Technology Act that was declared unconstitutional by the apex court way back on March 24, 2015.
“It’s amazing and shocking. That’s what I can say. Shreya Singhal is a 2015 judgment. What is going on in the country is terrible,” Justice R.F. Nariman observed after senior advocate representing the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) brought to the court’s notice the continuing foisting of cases under the scrapped section and courts taking cognisance of the same. The Justice Nariman-led bench also comprised Justices K.M. Joseph and B.R. Gavai. ....

NBA-NEC Tackles National Issues at Abuja Meeting

The NBA decried the worsening insecurity in the nation, and particularly condemned the incessant kidnaping of school children in various parts of the country. It urged the Federal Government to take urgent and further steps, to provide adequate protection for schools in kidnap prone areas.
On the Twitter ban by the Government, NBA condemned in totality the action of the Government which potentially threatens the freedom of speech of a majority of Nigerians and the attendant consequences, calling on the authorities to rescind its decision immediately.
