Uganda’s Minister of Works and Transport has spoken out for the first time since the attempt on his life, while President Yoweri Museveni has said the minister’s bodyguard “should have shot to kill”.
On Wednesday, Minister Edward Katumba Wamala, who is also a high-ranking general in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), broke his silence after the failed assassination attempt on Tuesday in Kisaasi within the capital city Kampala, Daily Monitor reported.
Katumba’s daughter, Brenda Nantongo, was killed in the attack, as was the driver, Haruna Kayondo, according to Uganda Radio Network. ....

We are often reminded to be thankful for what we have. This week, we give thanks for the opportunity to work, for those who have it, that is. One of the key messages from the President’s swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday was that the election is over and we should “get back to work”. 
I was particularly struck by an article in which a writer confessed that even though her daily labour was breaking her back, at least she had it and was, therefore, thankful. 
However, after the year that we have had, many are struggling to find work that pays. I was scandalised to read the other day that some schools were adopting a pay-per-lesson arrangement for the teachers. ....
