Earlier this month, transit riders who use
Metro Transit’s app to purchase tickets and choose routes may have noticed a new option popping up on their screens:
The on-demand, $2-per-ride transit service started operating in certain areas of St. Louis County a year ago and
has recently been expanded. Now, rather than requiring a separate app or phone call to hail a ride, Via Metro STL riders with a smartphone have a more seamless view of destination and route possibilities.
The idea is to serve all corners of the region and make public transit convenient even for those who live outside bus or rail hubs.

As an education director, Carol Commerford works to curate various programs to attract young listeners for Classic 107.3, a local arts-focused radio station.
One of those programs is “
Musical Ancestries.” It s designed to teach children about diverse music around the world, with a reach extending well beyond the audio component.
Since Commerford began it in 2019, “Musical Ancentries” has taken listeners across the soundscapes of Thailand, West Africa, India, the Caribbean and more.

Each of the audio broadcasts tells a journey of a child learning from an elder or community members. In the Jewish “Musical Ancestries” episode, for instance, a cantor was featured. And for the most part, local children who are members of the highlighted community are cast in the productions as well

For Leslie Washington and Tonya McCaw, the fight for increased gun restrictions is personal.
Washington, a survivor of domestic violence, was threatened by her ex-husband with a firearm one reason she fled St. Louis for Cape Girardeau, where she lives today. She also lost one relative to suicide and another to murder. In both cases, the weapon was a gun.
