A Taste of Quigong Qigong will return at 9 a.m. Tuesdays July 6 through Aug. 10. Thousands of years old, qigong (ʺchee‐ gungʺ) is the practice of cultivating mental and physical balance through the coordination of breath, movement and awareness. Simpler than taiji (which combines aspects of qigong and Chinese kung fu), qigong can be practiced throughout one s life to promote overall health and well‐being. Fearless, refreshing, commanding, captivating and delightful are just some of the descriptions of Jewish-American violinist Ilana Zaks, who will be performing at Falmouth Art Center on Tuesday, June 1. The performance will take place at 4 PM outside in the back yard lawn of the Falmouth Art Center. Chairs will be provided out on the lawn. Ms. Zaks has performed as a soloist with the Boston Civic Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, New England Philharmonic, and Pioneer Valley Symphony, among other groups. Her many honors include top prizes at concerto competitions and she was recently a featured performer on the National Public Radio program, âFrom the Top.â ....
Murder mystery part of “radio hour” fundraiser In an unusual mix of eras and technologies born out of pandemic necessity, the theatrical fundraiser for the West Falmouth Library this year will be a 1940s radio play that uses 2021 Zoom virtual capabilities. The library and writer/director Lisa Jo Rudy’s Not My Monkeys company will present “The Music and Murder Radio Hour,” a nostalgic virtual variety show featuring “vintage” ads, musical acts and a murder mystery/comedy. Not able to gather in person for the fundraising party this year, Rudy reached out to local actors and got more than two dozen to participate via Zoom and video for a one-hour online presentation with two showings. ....
Candlelight concerts return April 25 with a virtual performance COURTESY OF LAURA HARBOTTLE Violinist Ilana Zaks, and her brother, cellist Eric Zaks, will perform in the first virtual concert in the history of the Candlelight Concert Series at 4 p.m. April 25 via Zoom. Jewish-American violinist Zaks has performed with different orchestras including the Boston Civic, Rhode Island Philharmonic and Cape Cod Symphony. Ilana’s has produced a visual album, The Persistence of Memory , released on Amazon Prime US and UK in July 2020. Eric is a cellist and undergraduate student at Tufts University. Born and raised in the Boston area, he is currently a student of Boston Symphony Orchestra member Mickey Katz. Eric is assistant principal cellist in the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. He has performed in Boston’s Symphony Hall and Carnegie Hall, as well as Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam, Vienna and Asia. ....
